Igor Dodon: Lending agreement with Russia is to be ratified in February

President Igor Dodon said the ministries of finance of the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation next January are to close the negotiations on the provision of the promised US$ 500 million loan. At one of the first sittings of Parliament next year, this agreement should be ratified. This way, the infrastructure projects that are planned to cover a large part of Moldova’s territory could be kicked off, IPN reports.

“I discussed this matter with Vladimir Putin and with Dmitry Kozak and I think the negotiations between the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Ministry of Finance will end in January and this agreement should be ratified at one of the first sittings of Parliament in February. I think this is real and we could launch the infrastructure projects,” President Dodon stated in a program on NTV Moldova channel.

He voiced hope that several serious strategic investors operating in different areas, such as industry, will come to Moldova the next few months. “Besides investments in agriculture, for us it is very interesting and important to realize the industrial potential. Not accidentally, I proposed creating several industrial platforms. We must see in each district what we have from the Soviet industry. There are particular platforms and we must attract investors to these platforms, from Russia for example,” he stated.

The official noted the Moldovan citizens who work in the diaspora should be informed about the labor offers existing in Moldova. “I believe this mechanism can work. Our task is to bring tens of thousands of citizens home during the next few years. I think this is real given the projected investments,” stated Igor Dodon.
