“The leaders of the last protests mounted in Chisinau are those who struck deals with Vlad Plahotniuc, who were in a coalition with the Democratic Party and were promoted for minister, ambassador, mayor general etc.,” said President Igor Dodon. He noted that the country during the past nine years has been ruled by either those who protest or by those from the PDM. President Dodon made such statements in a conference held to sum up the results of his one year and a half in office, IPN reports.
“You struggle between you, but what do you want from us, the people? You have robbed this country for nine years. Where were the leaders of these protests when the US$1 billion was stolen? They voted together with Plahotniuc – Maia Sandu and others. Now they cry “red plague!”, but the country during the past nine years has been governed by the “blues’’, the “yellows” and the “greens”,” stated Igor Dodon. He noted he has nothing against the people who came to the Great National Assembly Square because they need their problems to be solved, but these have nothing to do with the interests of the organizers of these protests.
As to the invalidation of the early mayoral elections in Chisinau, President Dodon said it is a very dangerous precedent for the Republic of Moldova and it shows that justice is selective. Andrei Nastase and Maia Sandu are glad that the elections weren’t validated as this way they can victimize themselves in the context of this year’s parliamentary elections. Moreover, given that Andrei Nastase broke the law, he should have been excluded from the electoral race and the Socialist candidate Ion Ceban should have been declared the winner.
As to the European officials’ reaction to the election invalidation decision, Igor Dodon said this is superficial. The West should admit that the current parliamentary majority and the current Government are those whom them supported for nine years during the so-called pro-European rule. “They tolerated them and gave them money. They stimulated them and ignored the wrongdoings committed by these. But the West does not want to admit it. Sometimes I have the impression that Brussels abides by the biblical norm – If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also,” he stated.
