Igor Dodon "launched five proposals" for the Prosecutor General

President Igor Dodon "launched five proposals" for the Prosecutor General, Alexandr Stoianoglo, who took the oath today, November 29. The proposals include the eradication of corruption in the system, the non-admission of political interference in the activity of the institution, as well as the successful investigation of high profile files, IPN reports.

"We must do our utmost to ensure that the prosecutor's office is no longer perceived by the citizens as a corrupt body, which deals with the promotion of corruption instead of its eradication. Dear prosecutors, let's admit that the hundreds of criminal cases opened lately, which are being opened and closed during the year, without a clear purpose, are economic cases to extort money from the economic agents, do not deny that. This must stop. That’s it. The General Prosecutor's Office is not a body for extorting money from citizens and businesses,” noted Igor Dodon.

The president has also specified that he wants the prosecutors not to be influenced or to listen to politicians. The society expects that the investigation of high profile cases be expedited. "The theft of the billion, the usurpation, the privatizations, the airport and so on. If anyone believes or hopes that high profile cases will be dismissed or put on hold, this is inadmissible,” the head of state said.

In his opinion, the involvement of the external factor in the activity is also unacceptable. Neither from the East nor from the West. Igor Dodon also proposed the setting up of a team of professional and honest prosecutors, with experience in the field. "I urge you, Mr. Prosecutor General, to set up your personal team. Do not accept proposals regarding team members from deputy prosecutors or others,” mentioned Igor Dodon.

Prosecutor General has stated that there are certainly many challenges which, however, can be overcome by involving each prosecutor.

Alexandr Stoianoglo was appointed by presidential decree to the position of prosecutor general, after obtaining the highest score at the interview organized by the Superior Council of Prosecutors. According to the Constitution, the Prosecutor General is appointed for a seven-year term, without the right to be re-appointed.
