Igor Dodon: It is one of most discredited periods in history of parliamentarianism

In a statement issued at the end of the mandate of the Parliament of the 20th legislature, President Igor Dodon said this is one of the most discredited periods in the history of parliamentarianism in the Republic of Moldova. “Since the first days of its activity, the so-called pro-European parliamentary majority positioned itself as anti-popular and abided strictly by party interests,” says the statement that is quoted by IPN.

“During the four years, those who formed so-called pro-European parliamentary coalitions installed three governments (Gaburici, Streleț and Filip) and gave support to another two interim governments (Gherman and Brega). We all know that namely in this period the problem of restoration of the stolen banking funds hasn’t been solved. On the contrary, the stolen funds were made the people’s burden and Moldova strengthened its image of the poorest state in Europe. Emigration reached catastrophic proportions and the political administration deteriorated its relations with the great international political players and also pursued a Russophobe and irresponsible foreign policy,” runs the statement.

Igor Dodon also said that Parliament managed by an anti-popular majority of the so-called pro-Europeans will soon be history. The parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019 are a good opportunity for bringing things to a normal development path.

In the last sitting of the current session, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu reacted to the President’s statement. “Maybe President Dodon does not know, but this Parliament will yet work. Moreover, I want to inform you that President Dodon for the fifth time violates the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova because he didn’t promulgate five laws that were confirmed by Parliament by a rerun vote,” he stated, noting that if the President violates the Constitution for five times, he can be considered an illegal President even if he has legitimacy.

Andrian Candu noted that Article 89, paragraph 1 of the Constriction says that if the President of Moldova  commits acts by which the Constriction is violated, this can be removed by Parliament. He requested the legal commission for appointments and immunities to prepare an informative note concerning the impeachment procedures and to submit it to the Parliament’s Standing Bureau for examination. “I suggest, dear colleagues, taking Mister President Dodon with us when we are close to being history,” he stated, adding the population could be congratulated by an acting President on New Year’s Eve.
