Igor Dodon: It is a blow to Moldovans who waited for assistance from this money

The judgment by which the Constitutional Court suspended the financial support that Moldova was to receive from Russia is “a harsh blow to the millions of Moldovans who waited for assistance from this money”. President Igor Dodon posted his opinion on Facebook after the High Court pronounced on the issue, IPN reports.

According to President Dodon, this politicized decision directly affects the salary earners, pensioners, health system, business community and the whole economy that now needs financial resources to overcome the crisis experienced during this long period of pandemic.

He noted the CC judges who decided to annul the financial support that was to come from Russia showed that they support the interests of political clans, not the interests and needs of the citizens. “We ascertain a possible return to the methods according to which the CC worked before June 2019, when the institution was held hostage by political and oligarchic groups and those who exert their influence on the institution now include those who held it hostage then – former MPs of the PDM,” stated President Dodon.

He also said he will do his best to solutions to support the people and to maintain stability and the functioning of the state. “Together with the Government and colleagues from Parliament, we will soon come up with solutions by which to overcome the crisis caused by irresponsible opposition political groupings,” noted the official.

For his part, Prime Minister Ion Chicu said the Government will identity the resources needed to cover the budget gap caused by the CC judgment.

“The CC took a decision. This should be mandatorily executed as should the costs stipulated in the state budget law be. The Government will identify the financial resources needed to cover the budget gap generated by this decision. We will abandon no project of those that are designed to support the citizens, business entities and to restore road infrastructure,” the official posted on Facebook.

The CC on May 7 ruled that the lending agreement between Moldova and Russia that was ratified by Parliament on April 23 is unconstitutional.
