Igor Dodon is to publish material of criminal case featuring him

The former President of Moldova Igor Dodon will publish the material of the criminal case featuring him so that everyone, including the press and nongovernmental organization, familiarize themselves with the content of the case, lawyers for Dodon have announced.

In a news conference hosted by IPN, the lawyers said that in the case, reference is made to recordings made in the head office of the Democratic Party, without taking into account the fact that these could have been forged. “Why do we say that this case was fabricated? We have a recording that we described as fake, illegal and non-authentic and have the statements of witnesses who said that they heard about such a recording. Is something like this called a criminal case? Surely no. That’s why we say that we do not have what to hide and will make the content of the case public. Look and see how a former President can be brought to justice,” said lawyer Petru Balan.

The defense noted that the recent leaks from the Telegram account of a presidential adviser prove that Igor Dodon’s case is political. Petru Balan explained that Igor Dodon, who is under house arrest, has a microphone attached to his leg bracelet and what he says is recorded nonstop. The prosecutor admitted to this. Such a recording appeared on a Telegram account. It is not known who furnished this, but only the prosecutor in charge of the case and the investigation officers have access to such information.

Lawyer Nicolae Posturusu said the developments are serious and persons from the investigation group or their superior can be involved. “The way in which the prosecutors will probe these leaks from Telegram accounts is actually an exam for the current government,” he stated.

The lawyers said they document each violation and will present the evidence also to international organizations. “As regards the abuses related to the recording, we will notify the Prosecutor’s Office of them so that they determine how a secret recording from the penal case reached high-ranking officials,” noted Nicolae Posturusu.

Lawyer Ion Vîzdoaga said that based on deciphering presented when the arrest warrant was to be extended, the defense ascertained that they bugged the President’s gazebo where the lawyers met with their client. Later the gazebo burned to the ground. The lawyers suspect those bugs planted there caused a short circuit and the gazebo burned as a result. No other similar recordings were then presented, only information recorded by the leg bracelet.
