Until the 2018 parliamentary elections, everything should be done not to worsen the situation concerning the Transnistrian issue, President Igor Dodon said in the talk show “Key issue” produced by NTV Moldova channel, IPN reports.
“In 2018, the new parliamentary majority, with a new view, but not aggressive to the Transnistrian region and pro-Moldova, should sit at the negotiating table in a new format and should start to look for solutions to settle the conflict politically,” said President Dodon.
He believes that the 2020 presidential elections should take place on both sides of the Nistru within a new, unified state built on a new Constitution. “Very serious preparations will be needed in 2019 to hold a referendum on the new Constitution and elections in a new, unified state could take place in 2020. This is very important for keeping Moldova’s statehood,” said Igor Dodon.
According to him, the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia and the Transnistrian region represent the guarantee that the Republic of Moldova will not disappear from the map of the world.
