Igor Dodon: I’m certain that current Parliament should be dissolved

President Igor Dodon said he continues to believe that the current Parliament should be dissolved and snap parliamentary elections should be held as soon as possible. The largest part of the citizens want the same as the current legislative body no longer reflects the results of the elections of February 2019, IPN reports.

“Today we will have discussions with the parties that formed the government coalition. You know that the parliamentary majority is now to its limit. Most probably, we will today have a common meeting of the administrations of the PSRM and PDM so as to see how we should move on. But I, as the President, remain firm on the position that this Parliament should be dissolved,” the official said after the meeting of senior state officials.

Igor Dodon noted they will consider how the process should be triggered so that the future President, after inauguration, has no other solution than signing the degree to dissolve the legislature. Legal measures for launching the process will be proposed.

As the documents for registering initiative groups in support of candidates for President can be filed as of today, President Dodon urged to conduct a fair political competition. He stated the authorities will ensure democratic and transparent voting at the upcoming presidential elections. He also called on the development partners from the West and the East to delegate observers to oversee the elections.
