President Igor Dodon said in the current election campaign he will not become involved in electoral agitation in favor of a political party. However, if he is asked who he supports as a citizen, he will say what party he favors, IPN reports.
President Dodon noted he should be outside these struggles for seats of MP. After the elections, the Head of State should be a mediator and should propose the candidate for premiership.
According to Igor Dodon, he will yet give all his support to the pro-presidential party as he needs cooperation relations to exist between the future Parliament and Government. “As a President, it would not be right to appear in the electoral advertisements of a party and I will not appear in these. I will not campaign, but if I’m asked I will always say who I support,” the official stated in the program “Direct access” on NTV Moldova channel.
He also spoke about his duties in the foreign relations, noting that while the Premier and other state functionaries take part in the election campaign, the President should solve all the problems that appear in the relations with other states.
President Dodon said he will launch a campaign to visit all the districts of the country. This will happen after he makes a visit to Moscow next week. “I will convey no political message and there will be no political candidates. I set the goal of visiting all the districts of the Republic of Moldova by the end of this March,” he stated.
