The unionist movement can have and already has an opposite effect. It mobilizes the people to defend the Moldovan statehood, said President Igor Dodon. On a social networking site, he wrote he is ready to form a National Front during March 25-27 so as to offer a resistance platform to the Moldovan citizens who are against the union with Romania, IPN reports.
Referring to the symbolic statements on the union with Romania signed by Moldovan communities, President Dodon said only in a state with paralyzed political will can the mayor’s offices sign anti-constitutional documents in favor of liquidating the statehood and independence. “The inaction of the state bodies means direct support, even if hidden, for the unionists’ activity,” he stated. Igor Dodon noted that he daily receives messages from people who express their dissatisfaction with the measures taken by the unionists, who are supported from outside, and with the tacit support offered to them inside.
“The Republic of Moldova and Romania can remain friends. Why do you insist as the people’s defense reaction will transform them into emeries,” wrote the President, addressing the local authorities and foreign factors involved in processes that Igor Dodon calls anti-constitutional.
The Alliance for the Centenary that consists of a number of unionist organizations stages the Centenary Great Assembly in Chisinau on March 25 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Great Union. The citizens who support the idea of Moldova’s union with Romania are expected to come to the Great National Assembly Square where a symbolic statement on the union with Romania will be adopted at 12 noon. The statement will be reproduced and copies of it will be sent to the Parliaments of Moldova and Romania, foreign embassies working in Chisinau, international organizations and development partners to take attitude to these wishes of the Moldovan citizens.
