Igor Dodon: I will block bill on uninominal voting system

The changes to the Election Code concerning the introduction of the uninominal voting system will be blocked by the presidential administration if they are passed by Parliament, President Igor Dodon said in a meeting with the Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia of the European External Action Service Thomas Mayr Harting, who is in Moldova on a visit, IPN reports.

The interlocutors exchanged opinions about the main foreign and domestic policy issues. Igor Dodon said there is a common position of the presidential administration, Parliament and Government on the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. This package approach is based on the Berlin protocol.

The Head of State also said that an international event dedicated to the signing of the memorandum of cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union will be held in Chisinau on April 3-4. This will involve representatives of the Government and of the diplomatic corps. In this connection, Igor Dodon reiterated that Moldova should have good relations both with the East and with the West.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip also had a meeting with Thomas Mayr-Harting, on March 26. The two discussed the internal developments and the progress made in fulfilling the commitments undertaken by the Republic of Moldova in its European course.

The Premier welcomed the support provided by the European External Action Service in doing reforms in the Republic of Moldova, underlining the good results achieved in the process of implementing the roadmap. For his part, Thomas Mayr-Harting said the adoption of the package of laws on the justice sector reform is a very important step and effort should be now made to put it into practice.
