Igor Dodon: Government found last refuge in delaying date of elections

Struck by the parliamentary and extraparliamentary opposition, criticized harshly by the foreign partners, without support in society, the government found the last refuge in delaying the date of the parliamentary elections. This is how President Igor Dodon commented on the Parliament’s decision to set the parliamentary elections for February 24, 2019, IPN reports.

In a posting in social media, President Dodon wrote that the current government’s intention is to delay the parliamentary elections and to extend the agony. “Similar to the way in which the Democrats destroyed the country in the 1990s, the Euro-unionist alliances that ruled after 2009 dashed the people’s hopes for a better life in the Republic of Moldova. They will answer inevitably for this, especially after the elections. As the Democrats lost to the Communists on February 25, 2001, the current Democrats will lose to the Socialists on February 24, 2019,”  he said.

According to the President, by the decision to hold the elections next February, not this November or December, the government showed its fear of the election results and its political despair. But the fact that the elections will take place in winter  will reduce their electoral score even more.
