Igor Dodon give up seat of MP

The leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon decided to vacate his seat of MP. Also, in the party’s congress he will propose that PSRM should be managed not by a president, but by a collegial body. The politician made the announcement in a press briefing on October 18, IPN reports.

In the meeting of the party’s political executive, Igor Dodon announced his decision to step down as an MP. “I do not see any reason for sitting on this Parliament. I consider I can be much more efficient in other positions. Therefore, I decided to give up the seat of MP. I will submit my resignation to the Parliament’s Secretariat in several days,” stated Igor Dodon.

The politician noted that he decided to leave Parliament because he considers that his role of opposition leader will be much more active outside Parliament, with a people’s agenda and with visits from home to hope. He does not want to be tied to the parliamentary agenda and he also does not intend to hide behind parliamentary immunity.

Igor Dodon said he accepted to manage a new organization, namely the Moldovan-Russian Union of Businesspeople, which was registered in Chisinau in June.

In the PSRM’s Congress that will be held in two months, he will suggest making changes to the party’s statutes so that the party is managed by a collegial body and the post of president is excluded. “My mates asked me to be at least the president of honor of the Party of Socialists. A decision will be taken by the Congress. What is important is that I do not leave the party. I remain part of the team so that we together ensure the Party of Socialists returns to power,” stated Igor Dodon.
