The form of reintegrating the Transnistrian region into the Republic of Moldova will be decided by a referendum, President Igor Dodon was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1. According to him, concrete reintegration scenarios will be discussed after the upcoming parliamentary elections.
President Dodon said that the next steps as regards the free movement on both sides of the Nistru should be taken after the legislative elections and the political dialogue should be advanced. Transnistria cannot form part of another scenario than to be an integral part of the Republic of Moldova. “After the parliamentary elections, we will discuss concrete scenarios how this reintegration can take place, but a very important thing here is that any form of reintegration and coexistence will be discussed with all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” he stated.
The President noted that after a consensus is reached at internal level, the reintegration variant will be proposed to the international community. When the Transnistrian conflict is settled politically, the foreign military troops from the left side of the Nistru will have to leave the area together with the armament existing there.
