Igor Dodon: EU wants political stability in Moldova and EP’s resolution is a signal

The European Union wants political stability in Moldova and the continuation of reforms so as to implement the European standards. This is the signal sent by the EU through the European Parliament’s resolution recommending offering Moldova the prospect of joining the EU, Communist MP Igor Dodon stated for Info-Prim Neo. “When Moldova is in the focus of such important international organizations, it is evident that there will be something new and positive. The question is if the EU is ready to see the internal economic and political problems and accept new members in the near future. I’m skeptical about this,” said the Communist lawmaker. Igor Dodon also expressed his skepticism about the possibility of this resolution influencing the internal political situation in Moldova. “I hope the politicians in Moldova take decisions in the people’s interests, not as a result of consultations held outside,” he stated. He also said that the political situation in Moldova is rather difficult. “We are in a political impasse. Regretfully, the party interests and ambitions hinder reaching a compromise, but we hope a solution will be soon identified so as to overcome the existing problems. I rely on the first sittings of Parliament, not on the day of September 20 (when the Constitutional Court is to pass judgment),” said Igor Dodon. On September 15, the European Parliament approved its recommendation to the European Council, the European Commission and the European External Action Service to offer Moldova the prospect of joining the EU one day.
