Igor Dodon discusses referendum issue with Council of Europe Secretary General

The constitutional referendum launched by the government does not represent a real solution for overcoming the political crisis, considers the leader of the Party of Socialists of Moldova Igor Dodon. He told this the Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland in a telephone discussion, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the party, the two officials discussed the political situation in Moldova. Thorbjørn Jagland asked Igor Dodon to pronounce on the last initiatives concerning the amendment of the Constitution put forward by the Alliance for European Integration. “We plead for the election of the President by the current Parliament and will support an apolitical candidate for this post,” said the chairman of the Party of Socialists. The Council of Europe Secretary General stressed the bilateral dialogue should be continued within the consultations with the political parties of Moldova. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the press service of the Party of Socialists said the initiative to have a telephone conversation was put forward by the European side.
