Igor Dodon: Decision not to vote for Gavriliţa Government is definitive

The president of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said the decision not to vote for the Gavriliţa Government is definitive. “It is my position, but I discussed it with my colleague from the parliamentary group of the PSRM and from the party,” Igor Dodon stated in his online program on February 5, being quoted by IPN.

Asked how the Party of Socialists will act if another candidate is proposed when Parliament makes the second attempt to vote in the Prime Minister, Igor Dodon said the MPs of the PSRM will vote in a Government only if they are represented by this. “If our program is fully or partially incorporated into the government program and there will be representatives of the PSRM or professionals whom the PSRM would support, a Government can be voted in,” stated Igor Dodon, noting that the snap parliamentary elections will probably be held in June.

He believed the Parliament’s composition will change after the snap elections. Some of the parties will disappear, while others have the chance to assert themselves. If there is no parliamentary majority after the elections, there will be two solutions: discussions to reach a compromise or other snap parliamentary elections. “In this case, we could have a new blockage in Parliament, which would cost us 110-120 million lei as this is how much the snap parliamentary elections cost. We will be ready to discuss,” stated Igor Dodon.

He believes that snap parliamentary elections will be triggered because of the incumbent President who refused to have discussions with parties because her goal is to secure more seats of MP for members of her party. He also said that he is categorically against the reduction in the election threshold.
