Igor Dodon: CC decision to suspend me in case of propaganda law is a reason for legal action

The Constitutional Court’s decision to suspend President Igor Dodon from office in the case of the propaganda law is a reason for taking legal action against the Court’s members. The Head of State said the CC didn’t have the right to suspend him. The issue was discussed in the program “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

President Dodon noted that the Supreme Law clearly provides that after the law is adopted by Parliament for the first time, this is transmitted to the Head of State for promulgation. The law was passed first by the legislative body on December 7, 2017. “I had 14 days to sign it or return it to Parliament. On the last day I sent it back to Parliament and this adopted it again on December 22 and submitted it to the President for promulgation on December 27. Thus, according to the Constitution, the deadline for promulgation was January 10 – December 27 + 14 day,” he stated.

According to Igor Dodon, on January 4 he requested the Constitutional Court to pronounce on the constitutionality of the provisions of this law and didn’t invoke his refusal to sign the law. “And what the Constitutional Court did? It decided that the President refused to sign the law even if I could have signed it by January 10. On this day it was yet signed by Andrian Candu,” said the President.

“Why did the Constitutional Court decide to suspend the President in the absence of his refusal to promulgate the law? This is a reason for taking legal action. They didn’t have the right to suspend me from office.”

President Dodon said in the current form, he wouldn’t have promulgated the nlaw anyway.
