President Igor Dodon said the Democratic Party’s initiative to deprive the MPs of immunity is aimed at obtaining an additional instrument of pressure and political blackmail, IPN reports. On her Facebook page, the Head of State wrote that the pursued goal is evident. “The annulment of parliamentary immunity will enable the PDM to be more “convincing” in its negotiations with the own coalition partners,” wrote Igor Dodon.
The President considers the government will try to intimidate the opposition MPs with fabricated criminal cases either in order to shut them up or to force them to become “neutral”. “Now that they have the Prosecutor’s Office, the Security and Intelligence Service and the police under political control, the government can set anyone up and can fabricate any case overnight in order to treacherously take revenge on the parliamentary opposition forces. Their intention is to indirectly exert pressure on the presidential administration as well. Hitting the Socialist MPs by fabricated cases, they will aim to make me more conciliatory in relation to their anti-social and erroneous geopolitical projects,” said Igor Dodon.
According to him, such a mechanism can be examined only after the parliamentary elections, when the state institutions are credible and cannot be politically controlled and will not play the role of intimidation instruments.
