Igor Dodon: All members of National Bank’s Board should have been dismissed

The chairman of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said the money stolen from Banca de Economii (BEM) will not be restored because the theft involves politicians of the ruling class.  He made such a statement in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on the public station Radio Moldova, IPN reports.

According to the Socialist leader, there was appropriated a sum of 28 billion lei, with the last 13 billion lei being stolen last November. “Only another government can find the stolen money and bring it back within possibilities. I possess information that the government intends to take another about 7 billion lei from the BEM in the form of loans so as to inject it into the banking system,” he stated.

As to the dismissal of the chairman of the National Commission for Financial Markets Artur Gherman and National Bank vice governor Emma Tabirta, Igor Dodon said that even if these bear a part of the blame, they were put in the situation to answer for everyone. “All the members of the Administration Board of the National Bank should have been dismissed. It’s true that Emma Tabirta was empowered to supervise the banks. But the important decisions were taken by the Board together with governor Dragutanu. Not those two stole the money,” he added.

Igor Dodon suggested a number of solutions. “The situation in the banking system will be remedied if those to blame are jailed and have their property confiscated. I think it is opportune to limit the commercial activities with offshore companies. In the case of the BEM, the money was transferred to the account of the offshore company “Fortuna limited” of the UK and was then transferred to the Baltic States,” he said.
