Igor Dodon after adoption of resolution by UN: Government made a new hostile anti-Russia gesture

President Igor Dodon said the Government of Moldova that is controlled by the Democratic Party made a new hostile anti-Russia gesture by proposing a resolution on the withdrawal of the Russian troops from Moldova’s territory at the UN. According to him, the government coalition makes use of the international platforms, trying to strengthen the internal political positions that weakened significantly before the parliamentary elections that will take place in only several months, IPN reports.

“The Republic of Moldova should strengthen its statehood and promote a balanced foreign policy and should insist on the international recognition of its neutrality status. The settlement of the Transnistrian conflict or the country’s reintegration will be a guarantee of the solid Moldovan state. The stopping of the peacekeeping operation performed on the republic’s territory in accordance with the agreements of 1992, which is one of the most successful ones, will be possible only after both sides of the Nistru reach a comprehensive agreement on the plenary resolution of the dispute,” President Dodon wrote on his Facebook page.

According to him, a pro-Moldovan parliamentary majority and a pro-Moldovan Government will be formed in Moldova after the parliamentary elections. These will pursue a balanced foreign policy based on the national interests and will tend to restore the strategic partnership relations with Russia and to identify a model for fully and definitely settling the conflict, which would satisfy both Chisinau and Tiraspol.

The UN General Assembly on June 22 adopted a resolution titled “Complete and unconditional withdrawal of foreign military forces from the territory of the Republic of Moldova” that was proposed by Moldova. A number of 64 states voted for, 15 voted against, while 83 states abstained.

Earlier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovschi noted that the Moldovan authorities insist on the complete and unconditional withdrawal of the Operational Group of Russian Forces that is illegally stationed on Moldova’s territory, not of the rotating contingent that forms part of the military component of the Joint Control Commission deployed in the eastern districts. According to the minister, such confusion is often caused deliberately so as to misled the public opinion.
