The political status of the Transnistrian region, namely its independence, is not among the eight package issues that will be discussed by President Igor Dodon and the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky in a meeting in Holercani on March 30. Moreover, Transnistria’s independence cannot be accepted by the Moldovan authorities and most of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, the President said in a meeting with journalists in the evening of March 28, IPN reports.
“Mister Krasnoselski speaks about independence. Accepting it is out of the question. Not only the Republic of Moldova, but also all those involved in the “5+2” format, and Russia as well, will not accept Transnistria’s independence. In all the meetings, the Russian side declared that Transnistria is a component part of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Igor Dodon.
He also said that during a recent visit to Dubasari town in Transnistria, people from the left side of the Nistru came to the meeting with him and said that they want the country to be reunified as swiftly as possible. He also requested the Transnistrian administration not to make reference to the referendum of 2006 because most of the ordinary people and business entities from the Transnistrian region are for Moldova’s reunification.
