Igor Dodon about resignation of prosecutor general: More similar acts will follow

The dismissal of Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin represents the effect of the pressure exerted in Parliament and by the protesting people. This is a first resignation that will be followed by other similar acts, at a number of state institutions. This is how the leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon commented on the resignation from the post of prosecutor general announced by Corneliu Gurin on February 26, IPN reports.

“The rulers had no way out and ultimately conceded an important position from their scheme. More officials will resign as they do not have a choice. It is now important for the next prosecutor to be independent. We must continue to exert pressure and must force things in the correct direction,” stated the politician.

According to Igor Dodon, the Socialists will attentively follow the implementation of the recently adopted Law on the Prosecution Service and the holding of a correct and independent contest to choose the new prosecutor general. The Socialists will insist that Corneliu Gurin should not hold the post of prosecutor general on an interim basis after Parliament takes cognizance of his resignation.

In the February 26 sitting of Parliament, Corneliu Gurin announced his resignation, saying the reform of the prosecution service should start from the upper level. He will vacate his seat on March 1. Gurin was named as prosecutor general in the summer of 2013.
