In over four years of the amendment of the legislation that now provides that the President cannot be a party member, Igor Dodon said this was done to destroy the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), IPN reports.
“I think that four years ago, when the legislation was amended so that the President was banned from being a party member, this was a move against us (the PSRM). Never since the declaring of independence, the President had been stripped of the right to be a party member,” Igor Dodon stated in a Special Edition on Primul în Moldova channel.
According to Igor Dodon, his withdrawal from public and political life would mean bigger chances for the PSRM to be torn up and deprived of influence.
“Four years ago, they thought that this way they could give a blow to the Socialists. Now they thought the blow will be given by generating discussions as to who will be the leader of the Socialists. I make no allusions here. The team is consolidated,” stated the ex-President.
On December 30, Igor Dodon was elected president of the PSRM after serving as President of the Republic of Moldova during the past four years.
Igor Dodon held office of President of the Republic of Moldova during December 23, 2016 – December 24, 2020. He served as an MP in 2009, while managing the PSRM. He also served as first deputy prime minister of Moldova since 2008 until 2009 and minister of economy and trade since 2006 until 2009.
