Igor Dodon about Energocom case: I do not avoid cooperating with prosecutors

The president of honor of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said he returned from Moscow and is ready to cooperate with the prosecutors in Energocom case. He noted the accusations made against him are a desperate attempt by the government to bring criminal proceedings against him at any cost. He leveled criticism at the PAS government as this failed to properly manage the state during the first five months in office, as he considers, and invited the dissatisfied people to protest in Chisinau, IPN reports.

Igor Dodon didn’t miss the chance to blame the government for the rise in natural gas rates and in prices, mentioning also the Venice Commission’s opinion about the PAS initiatives concerning the modification of the composition of the Superior Council of Prosecutors and the assessment of the prosecutor general. He said PSRM will support the unsatisfied people who will take to the streets.

“We must get ready for a moment that will definitely come. The people will have to choose again. The people should be reminded of what is going on and a decisive blow should be given when times come, as it happened in the case of Plahotniuc. The people want to protest. I urged them to start and to protest by 20-30 in villages and then in districts and later to come to Chisinau. We will support them,” Igor Dodon stated in the talk show “Direct Access” on NTV Moldova channel.

He said the case in which he was invited by the Prosecutor General’s Office to be questioned as a suspect does not scare him. He assured he will cooperate with the investigation body and anticipates that new criminal cases will be started.

“Their situation is not at all good if they returned to a case that is 13 years old, dating from 2008. This case was extensively discussed and analyzed by the Prosecutor General’s Office and there is nothing to be found there. It means you analyzed my four-year tenure as President and found nothing. I do not avoid cooperating with prosecutors. I risk saying that they hoped I will not return and will say that I fled the country. I’m sure there will be more criminal cases, pressure as we are the alternative in people’s heads,” stated Igor Dodon.

Energocom case in which Igor Dodon is featured as a suspect refers to the purchase of electrical energy through the agency of an intermediary company in 2008-2009. It is presumed that the fraudulent scheme on the import of electricity by which the budget was defrauded of US$12 million was planned when Igor Dodon served as minister of economy.
