The decision made by the company NR Investments Ltd to give up buying a 95% shareholding in Avia Invest SRL, which manages the Chisinau International Airport, hasn’t been discussed with the Moldovan authorities. President Igor Dodon considers such a decision was taken because of authorities’ plans to open more airports in the country, IPN reports.
“This means we are destroying the monopoly that is now held by international aviation services in the Republic of Moldova. This placed someone on alert,” President Dodon told the press.
According to him, the objective remains the same – the Chisinau International Airport should be transferred back under the exclusive management of the Government. “We will insist on the procedure for annulling the concession agreements that were signed by the previous governments and I think we have real chances in this regard. Maybe that investor that manages the airport will come to us itself and will concede at a time when other airports will also be developing,” stated the official.
Asked if he knows about the new owner of Avia-Inves SRL, which is reportedly a Russian businessman, Igor Dodon said he does not know but will collect information and will provide details later.
