Democracy necessitates solid protection mechanisms. We urgently need representative international meetings to be convened to reaffirm the current legal framework of the international system or to propose a new architecture of the relations between nations, presidential adviser on foreign policy matters Aureliu Ciocoi said in the opening of the Crans Montana Forum in Brussels on June 28, reading the speech of President of Moldova Igor Dodon, IPN reports.
According to President Dodon, the period in which we live and work is very difficult. Regardless of the continents, the risks to which we are exposed are identical: demographic problems, economic isolationism, poverty, terrorism, etc. In particular regions of the globe, the people face serious challenges to security, extension of corruption and dramatic decline in political culture. “It seems that the current system of world functioning norms is collapsing and we, the representatives of small states, such as the Republic of Moldova, do not see a safe alternative,” noted Igor Dodon.
He also said that earlier the European Union’s image was very attractive, in particular to the former Soviet republics following the fall of the Socialist Bloc, as this guaranteed the socioeconomic and political stability. Now this regional commitment also faces powerful waves of instability. During eight years, serious changes occurred globally and these should be discussed in a new meeting of the heads of state and government.
Igor Dodon noted that the powerfully develop states dominate substantially the developing or underdeveloped states. The case of the Republic of Moldova is relevant. With the signing of the Free Trade Agreement with the EU, the country lost access to the Russian market owing to the restrictions imposed unilaterally by the official Moscow. He makes effort to pursue a balanced foreign policy, to maintain and extend the relations with the European Union and to restore the good relations with the Russian Federation.
As to the Transnistrian settlement process, President Dodon said the internationally recognized neutrality of the Republic of Moldova is the key element of the final and sustainable political regulation, which will enable to also have the foreign troops withdrawn from its territory.
On his Facebook page, Igor Dodon said the Moldovan delegation headed by him didn’t take part in the international Crans Montana Forum for technical reasons.
