Igor Demchuchin was discharged from the post of acting deputy prosecutor general. The Superior Council of Prosecutors gave its consent to the dismissal following a request made by interim prosecutor general Ion Munteanu. The latter noted that the request was made as a result of the “loss of trust, combined with actions that question the observance of the ethical principles”, IPN reports.
The acting prosecutor general said that Igor Demchuchin was concerned with the gathering of information and the supervision of his work. “I was astonished to learn about these events at the SCP meeting on February 22, 2024, when the candidates for the position of prosecutor general took the interview,” stated Ion Munteanu. In his opinion, the information was accumulated in a premeditated way in order to launch an open attack during the contest.
The competition to choose the candidate for the position of prosecutor general was revoked following dissatisfaction expressed with the score awarded in the interview stage. The SCP awarded anticorruption prosecutor Octavian Yakimovski 8.53 points, prosecutor Igor Demciucin - 8.19, current interim prosecutor general Ion Munteanu – 8.16, and jurist Andrei Coca – 4.72 points.
Igor Demchuchin was appointed acting deputy prosecutor general in January 2023, at the proposal of Ion Munteanu.
Also today, the SCP accepted Sergiu Brigai as a candidate for the post of acting deputy prosecutor general.
