Igor Corman requests Europeans to hasten liberalization of visa regime

Head of Parliament Igor Corman sought support from the MEPs and governments of the EU member states so that the final decisions on the abolition of the visa requirements for Moldovans are adopted as soon as possible, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from Parliament, in his address to the members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, Igor Corman said that Moldova fulfilled the commitments as regards the initiation of reforms aimed at modernizing the country and coming closer to the EU. Concrete results were achieved in such areas as border control and migration, public order and security, and human rights.

The Speaker stated that the European Parliament’s recent decision to lift all the restrictions on the import of Moldovan wine was a powerful gesture of support for the Moldovan people and businesses. Despite all the challenges, Moldova is now more decided than ever to continue the efforts to align the national economic and political institutions with those of the EU.

Igor Corman also spoke about the benefits that the Moldovans from Transnistria will enjoy. These benefits will help solve the problems related to the political and economic isolation and will contribute to the elimination of the destabilizing influence existing in the area.
