Speaker Igor Corman, in the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament held in Oslo on September 11-12, said the goal of the Government of Moldova is to ensure the unity of the political forces and the continuity of the European integration project, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué of the Parliament’s press service, Igor Corman voiced hope that the European Parliament will ratify the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU as a matter of urgency.

In the meeting with the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament Valeriu Stefan Zgonea, Igor Corman underlined the importance of fostering the interparliamentary cooperation, especially based on the platform of the join commission for European integration between the Parliament of Romania and the Parliament of Moldova, in a move to facilitate the transfer of expertise in the European integration process.

Also in Oslo, the Moldovan Head of Parliament had a meeting with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Cemil Çiçek. Igor Corman informed his Turkish counterpart about the work of the working group that is examining matters related to the special status of Gagauzia and about the adoption in the first reading of a bill designed to ensure the functioning of the law on the autonomous territorial unit. The sides also discussed the possibility of Turkey offering assistance to the working group, alongside the representatives of the EU and OSCE.

“Moldova is interested in deviling cooperation relations with Turkey at all the levels. What we did at bilateral level with the European Union, we did with Turley too. I mean the free trade agreements and the free movement of people,” stated Igor Corman.

For his part, Cemil Çiçek said that Moldova and Turkey pursue the same goals – to integrate into the EU and to intensify bilateral trade. The signed Free Trade Agreement between Turkey and Moldova and the free movement of people show that the two states are strategic partners.
