Head of Parliament Igor Corman requested the Government to examine in detail the package of laws for which it assumed political responsibility. He said that if disagreements are identified in them, they could be reviewed. The Speaker made the request following the Liberal-Democratic lawmaker Veaceslav Ionita’s assertion that amendments were introduced into these laws, which allow creating phantom companies and appropriating public money, IPN reports.
“We ended the spring-summer session by a less traditional method – the assumption of responsibility by the Government. This decision wasn’t spontaneous. It resulted from the fact that important bills that were discussed with the foreign partners, concerning the security of the financial system, got stuck in the competent commission,” stated Igor Corman.
He noted that the government coalition discussed the possibility of the Government assuming political responsibility if there are not enough votes or the bills do not reach Parliament. “Other bills were included in this list meanwhile as, for example, that concerning the disciplinary punishment of judges, which was required for continuing the justice sector reform and for obtaining a tranche of €15 million from the European partners. The bill on mortgage, to which Mister Ionita referred, was discussed with the World Bank and forms part of a commitment made to receive a tranche of US$30 million in budget support,” said the Head of Parliament.
Igor Corman stated that this commitment was undertaken by the whole government coalition and they cannot speak now about fissures in the coalition. He confirmed that he received a letter from MP Veaceslav Ionita with his arguments. He discussed the issue with the minister of finance and is waiting for the Government’s opinion concerning the package of laws.
