Head of Parliament Igor Corman and Vice President of the German Bundestag Ulla Schmidt Monday visited the Mother and Child Institute in Chisinau. The visit was an occasion for the Moldovan official to ask for Germany’s assistance in modernizing this hospital, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the campaign “Revive Moldova”.
“We are Europeans and want this hospital to become a European one. We must mobilize through this project, which was initiated within the campaign “Revive Moldova”, and it should be a successful project,” said the Speaker. He added that he discussed possible cooperation between the Mother and Child Institute and a top German hospital. He also said that he will contribute money within the fundraising campaign and other MPs will do the same.
Ulla Schmidt, who was also Minister of Health in Germany, thanked for the possibility of visiting the hospital, saying it is important to ensure a technical basis of the highest level in healthcare. “I support this wish, your objective to transform this institution into a modern one that will meet the standards. I can promise nothing, but I will take this wish with me and will try to look for a partner or more, and I’m sure that I will find one. When effort is made from several parts, we will succeed,” she stated.
The Hospital’s director general Stefan Gatcan thanked the guests for the visit, saying the set objective is to fully rebuild the hospital in accordance with the European standards. “This campaign, “Revive Moldova”, is aimed at collecting funds for renovating the Mother and Child Institute. We will start with the maternity hospital and will continue with the other subdivisions,” he said.
The campaign “Revive Moldova” began in April and will continue by the end of this year.
