The year 2014 will not be an easy one for Moldova both at internal and foreign levels as there will be held ordinary legislative elections and elections in the European Parliament. That’s why the Moldovan authorities must do everything possible to sign the Association Agreement with the EU and to obtain a liberalized visa regime, while at internal level the people must feel these changes, Head of Parliament Igor Corman said in the program “Moldova Live” on the national TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
Igor Corman referred to the reforms that Moldova must implement for signing the Association Agreement and for obtaining a liberalized visa regime, including in the prosecution service and the justice sector, and the fight against corruption. “It is the Parliament’s duty to make changes to the legislation. Parliament plays not only the role of adopting these laws, but also of monitoring their implementation. I think that by next summer we have a lot of work to do in Parliament. From autumn, the efforts will be aimed at the election campaign,” said the Speaker. According to him, the Association Agreement with the EU should be signed in autumn and a special sitting of Parliament must be organized to debate this accord.
As to the Vilnius Summit, Igor Corman said this event is an important stage for Moldova which should be followed by no halts, but only by positive developments.
The Speaker said he will attend the Summit and will give a speech on the post-Vilnius actions on November 28. In the evening of the same day, there will start another meeting – the CIS Parliamentary Assembly in Sankt Petersburg.
“It would be good for us if I take part in this assembly too. It will be a good occasion for addressing a message to the participants,” said Igor Corman. He will have a number of meetings, including with the chairman of the Russian State Duma and the President of Kazakhstan.
The Eastern Partnership Summit starts in Vilnius tomorrow. Moldova is to initial the Association Agreement with the EU there.
