The candidate for the post of mayor general of Chisinau on behalf of the Electoral Bloc “People’s List” Igor Caldare invited the Party of Socialists’ candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau Zinaida Grecheanyi to public debates, but she didn’t come. In a news conference at IPN, Igor Caldare said that he chose Zinaida Grecheanyi because she is the only representative of the current opposition, who declares that she wants to solve the problems of the municipality
Caldare stated that in the debates the two contenders were to answer a number of questions. As Grecheanyi didn’t accept the invitation, Caldare answered himself the questions formulated by him. These referred to the stealing of money from the banking system. According to the candidate, even if the recovery of this money is not within the competence of the local authorities, the future mayor must become involved in this process because most of the depositors of Banca de Economii are residents of Chisinau. Igor Caldare also referred to a possible decline in the prices of public utilities. He said such a possibility exists and this will happen if he is elected mayor. As to the municipal property that was illegally sold, the candidate said a broad audit and an investigation by the competent bodies are necessary.
The candidate noted he possesses information that Zinaida Grecheanyi was involved in a scheme to take out a loan of €1.6 million from Banca de Economii. Two persons holding high-ranking posts possess documents showing this and Grecheanyi is blackmailable. “If Missis Grecheanyi becomes mayor general, she will be blackmailed and the decisions of the mayor general will depend not only on the wish of her chief Igor Dodon, but also on the financial needs and other interests of the two party leaders,” she stated.
Igor Caldare also said that only a mayor who has no obligations towards parties and who is not blackmailable can bring things in the municipality in order.
