The candidate for the post of mayor general of Chisinau on behalf of the bloc “People’s List” Igor Caldare demands holding accountable Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca and councilors of the Chisinau Municipal Council who, in the last meeting of the Council, adopted decisions to sell land in Chisinau. In a news conference at IPN, Igor Caldare said the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) started a criminal case that involves the mayor and municipal councilors, but the investigation was stopped because the prosecutor dealing with this case is close to members of the Liberal Party.
Igor Caldare noted that at the end of May, representatives of the bloc “People’s List” staged a protest near the office of the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc. As a result of political agreements, the Democratic Party took over the Prosecutor General’s Office, while Vlad Plahotniuc is the de facto leader of this party. The protesters demanded that Plahotniuc should make an approach to the PGO so that this starts a criminal case over the sale of land and other property belonging to the municipality.
According to Igor Caldare, the prosecutors instituted legal proceedings in several days, but the investigation stagnates because the City Hall refused to provide documents that could serve as evidence, while the prosecutor responsible for this case favors the Liberal councilors and the mayor general. Igor Caldare called on Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin to name another prosecutor to examine this case.
Ludmila Ipatieva, who runs for the post of Chisinau councilor on behalf of the bloc “People’s List”, told the same news conference that the assets of Chisinau are not a platform on which the parties can satisfy their interests, but is common property that belongs to all the residents and from which these should benefit. All the candidates of the bloc are ordinary people who will work for the people’s benefit only.
