Igor Botan: We needed six years to reanimate peaceful protests as instrument of pressure

We needed six years to reanimate the peaceful protests as an instrument of pressure, stated the executive director of the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT) Igor Botan, who is a member of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”. He considers that in the period the government was treated with indulgence. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, quoted by IPN, Igor Botan said the government is corrupt and illegitimate because it lied to the people in the election campaign, took part in the stealing of billions of lei and now reaps the harvest.

“They have no excuse. They had six years at the disposal and benefited from financial assistance from the international partners. They had a success story, which was an extraordinary advance, and then turned it into a horrible story of a captured state. They did it, not we. And now they asks for clemency,” stated Igor Botan.

The analyst communicated that he works on a calendar of events so that the Constitution be respected. Under the calendar, early elections will take place next March so that the constitutional norm is respected as Parliament cannot be dissolved half a year before the presidential elections.

The ADEPT director also said that the people want to stay in their county, to love their motherland and not to go abroad and look for a source of livelihood there.

The protest mounted by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” in the Great National Assembly Square on September 6 brought together about 100,000 people, according to the organizers. The participants decided to protest nonstop and put up tents in the Square.
