Director of the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT) Igor Botan said the protesters’ list of demands contains elements that were formulated in other protesters too as well as a new element, which is all the demands are in a way in consonance with the messages of the development partners. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, the analyst said this is a remarkable thing from this viewpoint and this protest movement led by political parties adjusts its messages so that there is resonance here, in the country, to meet the expectations of the people, and also at the foreign level, so that the demands practically coincide with the messages that come from the development partners, IPN reports.
“This means at least that there will be a kind of synergy in the exertion of pressure on the government. The existence of protests after over two years of their start is an element that shows very clearly that the situation in the Republic of Moldova is far from being stable. I think the protesters understand this element and want to underline it. The most important thing is that the government in the Republic of Moldova ignored the recommendations of the Venice Commission. So they insist on the abandonment of the mixed system and this is in consonance with what the European Parliament discussed,” stated Igor Botan.
The analyst considers Parliament will not renounce the law that it adopted, but for the protesters it is important to keep the dissatisfaction up and to invoke the attitude of the Venice Commission, the European Commission and other European institutions. According to him, it would be a mistake not to take part in elections even if there is dissatisfaction with the law on the electoral system change. The mounting of protests does not prevent them from thinking about the strategies that they will eventually apply in the election campaign that will take place in a year.
Igor Botan also said that the people in protests seek a maximum to obtain at least something. Everyone understands that this cooperation and, simultaneously, an expression of analogism is a stunt and this is emphasized.
