The possibility of finding a powerful Premier within the alliance of the three parties is a big illusion, considers political analyst Igor Botan, who is the executive director of the Association for Participatory Democracy. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, he said that he is very skeptical about the ability of the three parties to generate something new, which would be different from what was there until now and who will be Prime Minister thus does not really matters, IPN reports.

“It doesn’t matter because we know how they draw up the agreements on the formation of an alliance. There are party leaders who hold the so-called meetings of leaders and decide. The Prime Minister is a person who only puts into practice the decisions of the party leaders,” stated Igor Botan. According to him, the three key state posts were distributed and there is no doubt about this.  “The three leaders already showed their reflexes. It’s an illusion to think that they can change themselves at the age of 50 or 60,” stated the analyst.

According to the analyst, a future Premier will have to promote an austerity policy and will have to take very difficult decisions. Now Moldova must survive because the stealing of the stolen US$1billion has tragic consequences.

“A wave of price rises will follow and the population will probably react somehow. The problem resides in the reputation of the three political leaders, which is at a very low level not only in the country, but also abroad. There was a different situation in 2010, when a lot of money was given to Moldova that was considered a success story. In that period, 13% to 18% of the resources came directly as budget support. Now there are no such resources. The country is in a dramatic situation,” stated Igor Botan.

He also said that a Premier cannot become a national hero with three ‘notorious’ party leaders behind him. Asked who he thinks will become Prime Minister, Igor Botan said this does not matter for him and thus he does not want to analyze this issue.
