The Moldovan politicians promote obscure interests and the current negotiations most probably do not focus on the depoliticization of the law enforcement bodies, ADEPT executive director Igor Botan, who is the permanent expert of IPN’s project, said in the public debate “Why politicians again need time to form a majority coalition and what people in Moldova risk in such conditions?” staged by IPN.

Igor Botan said that last year the Liberal Democratic Party put forward a very good initiative - to hold a referendum on the election of the head of state on the day of the presidential elections, which is a promise made by the politicians during many years. “Then, the Constitutional Court blocked this initiative. Now those who blocked the referendum say that the problem of election of the head of state must be solved. Our politicians want, instead of clear rules, a circumstantial environment to do as they want. I think they will need the Communists to choose the country’s administration. Therefore, the Communists should have been invited to discussions. I convinced myself over the past few years that the politicians promote obscure interests,” he stated.

The expert added that the state of affairs in Moldova is deplorable. “I agree that the human factor has an impact, but there is a solution – to hold early elections. But they do not want to resign and continue to govern badly. They do not want to accept the international experience,” he said.

Igor Botan accused the politicians of not showing political will when the stealing of money from the banking system had to be stopped and when the theft was to be investigated.
