Igor Botan: Ghimpu plays risky

Political commentator Igor Botan is skeptical about Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu’s allusion that the Liberal Party would leave the European Integration Alliance if the new administration of the Ministry of Education will exclude the “Romanian History” discipline from the school curriculum. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo to comment on Ghimpu’s statements, Igor Botan said that keeping or excluding “Romanian History” is a political decision and it should be discussed at the Alliance’s Council meeting, not at the Ministry level. “This is not an issue of the Ministry, but of the Alliance Council, since the Minister is sooner a good technocrat rather than a politician”, the analyst mentioned. “Mister Ghimpu insists too much on being the moral leader of the Alliance; he plays risky. He will not leave, he will be angry, attempt maneuvers, but he will not leave in any case, because he has something to lose if he leaves”, stated Igor Botan. In his opinion, the PL leader may leave only in one case. “If Ghimpu is well informed about the economic situation, which is dire, and seeks for a pretext to leave the Alliance and hang everything on the other two members, then the move may be considered ingenious”, added Botan. Mihai Ghimpu has stated that if the current administration of the Ministry of Education excludes “Romanian History” from the curriculum, the Liberal Party will thoroughly analyze whether they would follow along or leave those who are “against the truth”.
