Igor Basarab was killed for debts, police
A killer was hired to murder businessman Igor Basarab as he owed over 80,000 euros to economic entities and private individuals. “Settling of accounts is the first version of the police,” said Minister of the Interior Victor Catan, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
According to Catan, after Igor Basarab had been the target of a murder attempt in 2008 he was warned over those debts several times. “There were a number of persons who wanted to recover their money from him.
“An investigation group was set up to probe the case. Evidence is being collected and all the circumstances are being analyzed,” the minister said.
In February 2008, Igor Basarab was shot in the head through the window of his office, but remained alive. The pistol from which he was shot was found later. However, the case was not solved.
“The investigation was of a poor quality and we question the professionalism of those who examined that case. Now we are analyzing the versions that existed then as well,” Victor Catan said.
