The full annulment of the immunity of judges and MPs in a society where the institutions do not work as they work in Western Europe and where there is a lot of corruption and influences in these areas are sufficiently powerful on the part of the political class can lead to the vulnerability of judges and MPs, president of the Constitutional Court Alexandru Tanase stated in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.
According to him, if the immunity is removed, the judges and MPs in Moldova will be afraid to take decisions. “In this case, I see no difference between an illegal decision taken as a result of pressure and an illegal decision that is the result of incompetence or acts or corruption. It remains as illegal. That’s why we must be very attentive and prudent when we suggest making vulnerable those that a priori and a definitio should benefit from immunity,” stated Alexandru Tanase.
The Constitutional Court president considers that until there is no authentic democracy and no definite rule of law and a functional state in Moldova, such important figures of the system as the MPs and judges risk being made vulnerable.
