The state-owned enterprise “Moldova’s Railways” (CFM) is very important for the economy of the Republic of Moldova and its current administration has a strategy and wish to improve things, said representatives of the company, who noted that they bank on understanding and assured that if artificial obstacles are not created, the CFM will return to a normal development path.
“That’s why we urge you to continue to keep an eye on us, but to do so that the care shown to the CFM is an additional impulse, not an obstacle to ensuring a decent present and future for the state-owned enterprise “Moldova’s Railways”, the enterprise’s first vice director for strategic planning Vitalie Mucan stated in a news conference at IPN.
According to him, the enterprise is much more important for the country’s economy for the discussions on the CFM to turn into polemics as this has nothing to do with the interest of the CFM or with the country’s interest in the railway sector.
Vitalie Mucan said that after the current administration took over, they started to implement a broad program to reorganize and modernize the enterprise. Starting with 2020, with the support of the development partners, 12 new locomotives were bought, making it the first purchase in the last three decades. Without these locomotives, the CFM simply didn’t have a future. The infrastructure on a number of railway sections is being rehabilitated.
“I want to remind that now the CFM is consistently implementing a development program planned until 2031. The program includes such stages as the institutional restructuring of the enterprise, the necessary investments, financial and traffic forecasts and financial resources. I say all these things in order to highlight the titanic efforts made not only to save Moldova’s Railways, but to also modernize and develop it continuously. The current administration very well realizes how and what it should do. We are following the path to develop the railway transport in the Republic of Moldova and we will definitely succeed,” stated the enterprise’s first vice director for strategic planning.
Vitalie Mucan noted that “Moldova’s Railways” is a strategic enterprise that is absolutely necessary for the country’s economy and it cannot be liquidated. Any speculation on the issue is senseless and illogical. “Given the aforementioned, we tell all those who are interested in the situation at the CFM: The situation is not easy, but it does not date from today or tomorrow. It had worsened continuously for ten years. But this situation can be overcome by determined actions and by a broad view on the sector,” he said.
The news conference also involved Vadim Shargarovschi, the CFM’s vice director general in charge of economic activity.
