If elections took place next Sunday, five parties would enter the legislative body. These are the Communist Party (PCRM), the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), the Democratic Party (PDM), the Liberal Party (PL), and the Party of Socialists (PSRM). These are the results of an opinion poll conducted by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova, IPN reports.
According to the survey, 41.7% of the respondents with particular political convictions said they would vote for the PCRM, 19.2% for the PLDM, 10.2% for the PDM, 8.9% for the PL, while 8.3% for the PSRM. The People’s Movement “Antimafie” would gain 2.8% of the vote, the People’s Party of Moldova – 1.3%, the Christian Democratic People’s Party – 1.2%, the National Liberal Party – 1.0%, while the Liberal Reformist Party – 0.9%.
One of the problems highlighted by the study is the large number of undecided people. 23% of those questioned do not know who to vote for, while 9% didn’t give a definite answer. Thus, almost each third surveyed person will be unable to make a conscious choice.
Among the Moldovan political leaders, Vladimir Voronin enjoys the greatest popular trust –20.4%. Iurie Leanca is trusted by 20.1% of the respondents, Vlad Filat – by 18.2%, Marian Lupu – by 7.1%, Igor Dodon – by 6.8%, Dorin Chirtoaca – by 5.4%, while Mihai Ghimpu – by 2.2%. Sergiu Mocanu, Nicolae Timofte, Igor Corman, Sergiu Mocanu, Nicolae Chirtoaca, Mihai Godea, Iurie Muntean, and Alexandru Tanase gained by 1%. 43.3% of those surveyed said they trust no one.
The survey was commissioned by the Chisinau local office of the International Institute of Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection for the Citizens of the IPA CIS Member States. The poll “Social problems of development of democratic processes in Moldova” was carried out between April 20 and May 5 and covered a sample of 1,186 adult respondents from 72 settlements of Moldova, except the Transnistrian region. The margin of sampling error is + 3.0%
