The best practices of local authorities from 41 villages and towns, including one on the left bank of the Nistru, received awards on Friday, December 12, from the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul”. The organization's director, Liubomir Chiriac, said that the National Awards Gala of the Best Practices of Public Local Authorities Program has become a tradition. The central region of the country remains the most active, winning 31 awards. The northern region got 15 and the southern part 9, IPN reports.

The 1st place for “Better governance equals people's trust in the work of local administration” went to authorities in Larga village, Briceni district, who decided to broadcast public meetings on the institution's website. In the section “Partnership between local administration and the citizens”, the 1st place was won by the authorities of Lozova village, Straseni district, who organized the ethno-culinary festival “Bostaniada”. The main goal of the event was to support and promote rural economy and 100 villagers had the chance to sell products during the festival. Authorities from Chiscareni village, Sangerei district, won the 1st place for “Energy efficiency solutions for healthier children” after installing 60 solar panels at the local kindergarten. The town of Orhei won the 1st place for “Supporting a clean and ecologic environment” after opening the first wastewater treatment plant that uses the “constructed wetland” technology.

The Best Practices of Public Local Authorities Program was launched in 2005 and since then 350 villages and towns in Moldova shared their best practices. Their stories have been published in four volumes and 71 best practices became the topic of five documentaries distributed to representatives of all the local public authorities throughout the country.
