Identity cards will be issued faster in connection with elections

The period for examining applications to issue the identity card and the electronic identity card will be shortened in connection with the snap parliamentary elections of July 11, as the Governor decided on June 16.

The application to issue the identity card of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova older than 18, submitted within a month before the election day, will be examined in a reasonable timeframe, but not later than two days before the election day, regardless of the period of the asked service and without paying the difference for issuing the card earlier.

Also, the citizens who will not have valid identification papers for voting will be able to ask for a temporary identity card during the two days prior to the election day and on the election day.

According to Liliana Iaconi, secretary general of the Government, the decision is aimed at ensuring the Moldovan citizens eligible to vote have identification papers for voting in elections. The same mechanism has been applied earlier too, but by an internal order of the Public Services Agency.
