Idea of a referendum is outdated, Dumitru Diacov

The early legislative elections are inevitable, while the idea of a referendum is outdated, said the president of honor of the Democratic Party (PDM) Dumitru Diacov, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. By Wednesday, March 31, the Alliance for European Integration is to give an answer to the Venice Commission as regards the solution to the constitution crisis. Dumitru Diacov considers that the Alliance has no choice. “In the given situation, the early elections are inevitable,” the MP said. “We must reach a compromise with the Venice Commission. A special commission set up by the Parliament is working on a final decision and the conclusion will be submitted to the Alliance's Council.” According to Diacov, the Alliance's decision must be in accordance with the Constitution. “The PDM proposed that article 78 of the Constitution be modified in Parliament. Our stance remains the same - the head of state must be elected by the people, and we hope all the MPs will support this view,” Diacov said. The president of honor of the PDM said the modification of the Constitution by referendum is an outdated idea. He underlined that a final decision will be taken at the March 31 meeting of the Alliance.
