The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology recommends replacing the old-type driver’s licenses with licenses of the new model approved in 2008 in the case of international traffic. The old-type driver’s licenses approved in 1995 continue to be valid and can be used on Moldova’s territory.

The recommendation was made after problems were reported in using the old-type driver’s licenses in Italy, where Moldovans were fined in accordance with the legislation of this state. To prevent such situations, the ICT Ministry recommends obtaining a new-type license in the case of international traffic.

The old-type driver’s license can be replaced at any local office issuing documents for drivers. The procedure is simple and does not necessitate taking the driving test again. The person is to only confirm the fitness to drive a vehicle of the required category from medical viewpoint.
