An icon with the face of the Three-Handed Mother of God (Bogorodica Trojeručica) and the coffin with the relics of Holy Great Martyr George, the Victory-Bearer, and Holy Great
Martyr Demetrius the Myrrh-streamer will be brought from Greece on May 3 to Holy Great Martyr Teodor Tiron Church (Ciuflea) in Chisinau, IPN reports.
The church reminds that Saint John of Damascus, the defender of the veneration of icons, had his right hand cut so that he could not write about the beauty of icons with such grace. Crying before the Icon of the Mother of God, he fell asleep. When he woke up, he saw that his hand had been healed. He thus painted the icon of the Three-Handed Mother of God in gratitude.
Holy Great Martyr George, the Victory-Bearer was a Christian Roman soldier killed under Diocletian at the beginning of the fourth century. It is believed that George was ordered to take part in the persecution of Christians across the Empire, but instead confessed to being a Christian himself and criticized the imperial decision. An enraged Diocletian proceeded in ordering the torture of this apparent traitor and his execution.
Holy Great Martyr Demetrius the Myrrh-streamer is one of the most popular saints in the Orthodox world. He was martyred around the year 306 in Thessalonica, and his cult rapidly grew during the Middle Ages, when he was regarded as the first recognized as the patron and protector of the city, militarily as well as spiritually. During the seventh century a miraculous flow of fragrant myrrh was found emanating from his tomb.
The Christians are urged to come and pray before the icon and the relics so as to receive consolation and help for all the good deeds.
