Rescuers warn that the ice on lakes and ponds started to melt now that the weather grew warmer and walking on ice is dangerous, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service issued a recommendation intended for parents who have underage children and for amateurs of winter fishing, urging caution. The children must not be allowed to play near lakes, while the fishermen are warned not to cut too many holes as this can make the ice break. The ice towards the middle of lakes and ponds is thinner than near the shore. Also, under snow the ice is much thinner. The phone number for emergencies is 901. The yellow code advisory for ice melting was extended until February 8. Last December, a boy aged 12 died after he fell under the ice while playing. He came to skate together with two friends, but they couldn’t save him. The incident happened at a lake in “Valea Gastelor” Park in Chisinau.
